Access Statement for Lea Cottage (14 February 2009)
Introduction
Lea Cottage is a self catering premises for two people on two floors. It has a downstairs bedroom and shower room with a spiral staircase leading to the lounge/kitchen area with a balcony. The property is attached to the owners own property with a separate entrance. It is situated in the lovely Batch valley which is part of the National Trust Long Mynd.
We would like to extend a warm welcome to everybody. To ensure we can make your stay as comfortable as possible we would be grateful if you can inform us of any special requirements when booking although Lea cottage is unlikely to be suitable for people who use a wheelchair full time, as the building is set over two floors with a staircase.
Pre-Arrival
Full information is available on the website www.leacottage.co.uk Large print details of information is available on request. There are bus stops located 0.5 mile away. The local pub in the village is a five minute walk away. There is a main line railway station in Church Stretton 1.7 miles away. The nearest town is Church Stretton 1 mile away where there is a range of shops, pubs, restaurants and take away services. There is a tourist information centre, a library and a medical centre. We provide our guests with a welcome pack and a shopping service. Taxis are available in Church Stretton
Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
Lea cottage is situated on the edge of the village of All Stretton on a non tarmac road. Parking is available directly outside the premises. The entrance is over a bridge across a small stream leading to a gravelled area in front of the property. There is one small step into the property. The owners will be available to allow access to the cottage. The entrance is well lit.
Main Entrance
The entrance to the cottage is through a single leaf door into a porch area. It is lit by spotlight. Guests will be greeted and shown around. There is another door from the porch into the bedroom area .The floor is level. There is colour contrast between doors and surrounding wall.
Arrival time is from 2.00pm onwards and departure time is 11.00am
Sitting room/Kitchen area
The sitting room is upstairs accessed by a spiral staircase from the bedroom. The floor is wooden with a large rug. The area consists of a two seat sofa bed and a single arm chair. Furniture is movable should it be necessary to create more space. There is also a TV and DVD, bookcase and coffee table. This room also has a kitchen area with wall and floor units. It has a dishwasher, hob, microwave, oven/grill and fridge. It has a dining table and chairs with firm back support, but no arms.
Bedrooms & Sleeping Areas
The bedroom is on the ground floor. The flooring is engineered wood. It is heated by under floor heating. It consists of a double bed, chair, chest of drawers/dressing table, two small cabinets and a wardrobe. There is a single leaf door leading to the shower room. There is a spiral staircase leading from the bedroom to the lounge/kitchen area which has 12 steps (each step has a depth of 20cm) with a hand-rail on the left hand side going up.
Shower-room
The shower room consists of a low level WC, sink, large shower and heated towel rail. There is small step into the shower. The floor is tiled.
Outside
Leading from the lounge area through double doors is a paved balcony with metal railings.
